Atlanta’s Top Expected Restaurant Openings This Spring

Gu’s Dumplings

The sad news that Sichuan hot spot Gu’s Bistro recently closed only amps up the anticipation for this Krog Street Market food stall from the same team. Expect a pared-down menu with a focus on the spicy, savory bites that are right there in the name, as well as a few noodle dishes. Gu’s Dumplings should open in the next week.

Chama Gaucha Steakhouse

This Brazilian meatery serves up an endless stream of roast beasts, all served churrascaria-style and accompanied by an overwhelmingly abundant salad bar. This is the international chain’s fourth U.S. location, following two in Texas and one in Chicago. It’s slated to open any day now.

Proof Bakeshop

ATL bakers David Garcia and Abigail Quinn have partnered with the Cakes & Ale team to launch this Inman Park bakery and cafe in the former home of vegan bakery Dough. Proof will have counter service and a coffee-shop space, and will also serve as baking central for Cakes & Ale, its next-door Cafe and the forthcoming Bread & Butterfly, planned for the fall. Proof’s expected to open in April.

Novo Cucina

Restaurateur Ricardo Ullio (Fritti, Sotto Sotto, Escórpion) expands his collection of eateries outside of Atlanta, setting up a pizza- and pasta-focused spot in Dunwoody. It should be in business by late April or early May.

Le Fat

Miso Izakaya‘s Guy Wong has this Vietnamese spot planned for the Westside, with a swank look courtesy of designer Smith Hanes. Look for it in the next few months in the space that’s been empty longer than it’s been full, formerly occupied by his short-lived Yum Bunz. Big Boss Chinese, from the same team, hits Downtown Decatur later this year.

American Cut

Iron Chef‘s Marc Forgione’s New York-based collection of steakhouses adds a Southern outpost in the Buckhead Atlanta development. The prime cuts pay homage to classic chophouse traditions, while other dishes and starters get more creative, often with Asian accents. It’ll debut in late spring.


Taking its name from the Japanese word for “secret,” this lounge newcomer adjacent toUmi (and from the same owners) should be up and running by late spring. Expect cocktails, a menu similar to the sushi hot spot and an exclusive vibe evoking speakeasies and private clubs.


Chef Nick Melvin (ex Empire State South, Parish, Rosebud), who also runs the Doux South pickle company, will set up shop soon in the Old Fourth Ward. The goal is for the American-focused eatery to open in late spring, but don’t be surprised if that gets pushed back into the summer.

Victory Sandwich

Nearly a year after it was originally planned to launch, Victory Sandwich returns to Inman Park. (The sandwich shop relocated to Decatur after the Inman Quarter development displaced it.) It will — fingers crossed — open by the end of spring, boasting a large patio in the space formerly home to Park’s Edge.

Ponce City Market

Now that Krog Street Market is pulling in fans, PCM’s the next big milestone in Atlantan development. The massive residential and commercial space will house a food hall and restaurants that will open possibly by the end of spring, though more likely over the summer and staggered throughout the year. Highlights include a new spot from chef Hector Santiago, an ATL outpost of Minero (Charleston chef Sean Brock’s Mexican restaurant), an H&F Burger branch, Hop’s (a fried chicken joint from Linton Hopkins) and Dub’s, a seafood-focused eatery from Anne Quatrano, among others.
