About Sandy Springs
As of December 2005, Sandy Springs became a newly-incorporated city situated in Fulton County, Georgia. It is named for the sandy spring that still prevails in the community today which is conserved by a public park.
In the 1960’s and 1970’s Georgia 400 and Interstate 285 conjoined this neighborhood to metro Atlanta. Today, the metropolitan Sandy Springs is considered the seventh largest city in Georgia where more than 85,000 residents call this home.
This community offers an abundance of recreational outlets for residents and visitors of all ages alike to enjoy:
North Fulton Tennis Center – Named by Tennis Magazine as one of the finest public facilities in the country. This center includes 24 lighted tennis courts and is home to over 130 USTA and ALTA teams.
Big Trees Forest Preserve – The preserve presents over 30 acres of beautiful protected tree, plant and wildlife scenery. Great place to relax the mind, body and soul while strolling a long one of the many walking trails.
You will want to be sure and visit the Sandy Springs Festival (3rd weekend of September annually) which is a two-day fundraising event with great entertainment for all ages, mouthwatering home-cooking and much more all to raise money for the non-profit organization called Heritage Sandy Springs. Their purpose is to preserve the historical identity of Sandy Springs while endorsing its present-day appeal.
Another must-see is the Sandy Springs Historic Site home of the Williams-Payne House also referred to as the “Milk House” which was built in 1869 and today it serves as a central landmark. Tours are available by appointment only to the general public to view this incredible Victorian-style residence with historical lush landscaping.
With a thriving business district and a major medical hub (Northside Hospital, Georgia Reproductive Services and Saint Joseph’s Hospital) Sandy Springs is one of Atlanta’s most prosperous communities currently experiencing a residential development at a brisk rate.
